Specialty Dentistry

Advanced dental needs require advanced solutions. Our Specialty Dentistry services combine clinical expertise with modern technology to provide comprehensive care beyond routine treatment. Whether restoring gum health, improving comfort during procedures, or enhancing facial aesthetics, we offer specialized services designed for optimal results and patient comfort.

Sedation Dentistry

If dental anxiety has kept you from getting the care you need, you’re not alone. Sedation dentistry provides a safe, effective way to help you feel calm, comfortable, and relaxed throughout your appointment — so you can receive treatment without fear or stress.

Our goal is to make every visit a positive experience.

Nitrous oxide is the mildest form of dental sedation and is commonly known as “laughing gas.” It is a safe, inhaled option used to reduce anxiety and discomfort during treatment. If you feel nervous about dental visits, nitrous oxide offers a gentle, virtually side-effect-free way to help you relax.

What to Expect

Nitrous oxide is a colorless, odorless gas delivered through a small nasal mask. Within minutes, you’ll feel calm and relaxed — often described as a warm, light, or floating sensation. Some patients experience mild tingling in the fingers or lips.

The effects wear off quickly once the mask is removed, and most patients can safely drive themselves home without grogginess.

Is It Safe for Children?

Yes, nitrous oxide is commonly used for children and is considered very safe when properly administered. It can help young patients feel more comfortable and reduce the risk of developing dental anxiety. For children needing more extensive treatment, it may allow more work to be completed in fewer visits.

Oral sedation is a deeper relaxation option designed to help patients feel calm and comfortable during dental treatment. A prescribed medication is taken prior to your appointment and may be combined with nitrous oxide for enhanced relaxation.

What to Expect

Patients who choose oral sedation remain awake and responsive, but feel deeply relaxed. While you are aware of your surroundings, the sights, sounds, and sensations of treatment are greatly reduced.

You will not be asleep, but you may feel drowsy and have little memory of the procedure afterward. Oral sedation allows for pain control and comfort without loss of consciousness.

Because the medication can cause lingering drowsiness, you will need someone to drive you to and from your appointment.

Periodontics

Our periodontal surgeons, Dr. Crabtree and Dr. Mascardo have specialized training in treating the gums and bone supporting your teeth. Periodontists typically treat complex cases including severe gum disease and placing dental implants.

Missing teeth over a period of time can cause your jaw bone to atrophy, or resorb. This often results iWhen teeth are missing for a long time, the jawbone underneath can slowly shrink and weaken. This bone loss can cause remaining teeth to shift out of place, change the shape of your face, and leave you without enough healthy bone to support dental implants.

The good news is that modern dentistry now makes it possible to rebuild that lost bone. By restoring the jawbone to a healthy state, we can place implants that fit properly — bringing back both the function and appearance of a natural smile.n poor quality and quantity of bone suitable for the placement of dental implants as well as long term shifting of remaining teeth and changes to facial structure. Most patients, in these situations, are not candidates for dental implants.

When recession of the gingiva occurs, the body loses a natural defense against both bacterial penetration and trauma. When gum recession is a problem, gum reconstruction using grafting techniques is an option.

When there is only minor recession, some healthy gingiva often remains and protects the tooth, so that no treatment other than modifying home care practices is necessary. However, when recession reaches the mucosa, the first line of defense against bacterial penetration is lost.

A healthy smile makes a lasting impression!

Osseous surgery, sometimes referred to as pocket reduction surgery or gingivectomy, refers to a number of different surgeries aimed at gaining access to the tooth roots to remove tartar and disease-causing bacteria.

Goals of Osseous Surgery

Osseous surgery is used to reshape deformities and remove pockets in the alveolar bone surrounding the teeth. It is a common necessity in effective treatment of more advanced periodontal diseases. The ultimate goal of osseous surgery is to reduce or eliminate the periodontal pockets that cause periodontal disease. Despite the word “surgery”,  the procedure is reported to feel more like a thorough cleaning.

Third molars are commonly referred to as wisdom teeth. They are usually the last teeth to develop and are located in the back of your mouth, behind your second molars. Their development is usually completed between the middle teenage years and early twenties, a time traditionally associated with the onset of maturity and the attainment of wisdom.

Oral Examination for Extraction of Wisdom Teeth

With an oral examination and x-rays of the mouth, a dentist can evaluate the position of the wisdom teeth and predict if there are present or future potential problems. Studies have shown that early evaluation and treatment result in a superior outcome for the patient. Patients are generally first evaluated in the mid-teenage years by their dentist, orthodontist, or by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon.

3D Printing

Modern dentistry is evolving rapidly — and 3D printing technology allows us to deliver more precise, efficient, and customized care than ever before.

By integrating advanced 3D printing into our practice, we can design and fabricate highly accurate dental components right here in our office, improving both treatment quality and turnaround time.

Using digital scans and advanced software, we can create detailed, three-dimensional models of your teeth and oral structures. This technology allows us to:

  • Produce highly accurate dental models
  • Fabricate surgical guides for implant placement
  • Improve precision in restorative procedures
  • Streamline treatment planning
  • Reduce wait times for certain appliances

The result is better-fitting restorations, more predictable outcomes, and a smoother patient experience.

Botox

Botox® is widely known for cosmetic benefits, but it also plays an important role in therapeutic dental care. In dentistry, Botox can be used to relieve jaw tension, reduce teeth grinding and clenching (bruxism), and help manage chronic headaches caused by muscle overactivity.

Botox works by gently relaxing targeted muscles. When injected into specific areas of the jaw and facial muscles, it can:

  • Reduce clenching and grinding
  • Relieve TMJ-related discomfort
  • Ease chronic tension headaches
  • Decrease facial muscle pain and tightness
  • Protect teeth from excessive wear

By calming overactive muscles, Botox helps break the cycle of tension and discomfort.

Treatment is quick and minimally invasive, typically taking just a few minutes. Most patients describe the procedure as very tolerable, with little to no downtime afterward.

Results gradually develop over several days and can last several months. Many patients experience noticeable relief from jaw soreness, morning headaches, and facial tension.
